Inside Devistation

Here's three things you might not know about the Nashville Floods:

1) This was a controlled flood. That means to some degree, the flooding was intentional. Sounds horrible until you find out the alternative was sitting back and watching the damn break. Then it would have been Katrina Part II.

2) The water came from below. Businesses within the first block or two of the Cumberland River experienced flooding like you'd imagine: water rushing through the front door and windows. After that, the water traveled from basement to basement. One could have stood at Broadway and 5th totally unaware of the river flowing beneath.

3) Nashvillians are already looking ahead. This is most amazing to me. People are already pulling together and organizing impressive volunteer crews. Church leaders met and assigned neighborhoods. There were far more smiles than tears. Of course it's still sad and emotional, but their resolve is extraordinary.
