Eddie Montgomery sounded off on Twitter today about his soon to be ex-wife. Nobody can blame him for being upset, it's been a rough year. First he lost his record deal, then was diagnosed with cancer, and now his wife is leaving him. Her reasons aren't known (if she responded via twitter, nobody was listening) but I doubt it's because she couldn't deal with his treatment.
Here's a hypothetical... a young man named William Dukington decides he wants to break up with his girlfriend. The year is 1999, Darth Vadar rules the silver screen, and the Dixie Chicks still rule country radio. There is nothing peculiar about his reasoning for calling it quits - things just aren't working out. Suddenly her grandfather dies. OK, fine. He waits and helps her through her time of need.
Then another grandfather dies. He waits again.
A third grandfather (her parents remarried) gets sick and William decides enough is enough. Is he a jerk?
I doubt if Eddie Montgomery hadn't been diagnosed with cancer, that news of his pending divorce wouldn't be old by now. Certainly I don't know the particulars, but take away the illness and how does this story look? Frankly, Eddie seems anything but a gentleman for throwing his wife to the media in successive tweets. His reaction is one you'd expect from a teenage girl.
When a marriage falls apart, it's never one person's fault. It may take a few years, but he'll figure that out.

Totally agree with you, here. Not a fan and his spouting off about his marital problems was more of a turn-off. Wishing him a speedy recovery.
