A Visit from Blaine Larsen

Blaine Larsen has had a couple of hits, but he's sort of starting fresh with his own record label and a new album. Somehow, this 24 year old from Washington manages to churn out really believable island flavored stories. His new song "Chillin'" sounds like something Kenny or Jimmy Buffett would cut.

Blaine co-wrote George Strait's new song "Gotta' Get to You" and will soon be enjoying the fruits of that labor (he said it took about two hours to write). A number one song is worth a few hundred thousand dollars to the songwriters. That's enough to keep a starving artist alive for a decade if he/she is smart with the money.

Blaine, like most songwriters, was great to talk to. Only artists occasionally carry an air of pretentiousness about them; songwriters are down to earth and thankful for any praise you lay upon them. If I had to choose to spend dinner talking to Rivers Rutherford or Toby Keith, I'd take Rivers eight days a week.
